Relieve Suffering Through Radical Acceptance

Counseling Toolkit for April 2018

“It shouldn’t be this way. This is unacceptable.” How often do you hear people say those comments? When a situation is difficult, it can be hard to accept that reality is different from what you expected. But as tempting as it is, denying reality leads to more suffering. Or, can you think of a time when you accepted difficult circumstances and felt greater peace? For instance, Jesus departed the Garden of Gethsemane with clarity, peace, and focus in the midst of violence and chaos. Accepting hard realities directs your attention to the current moment with equanimity. This month’s newsletter presents a Radical Acceptance Skills tool that will help you and your clients accept life as it is in the moment, even when things are not going your way.
