Fees & Insurance

  • Counseling sessions are 50 minutes in length.

  • We offer sliding scale fees based on household income. This sliding scale model for counseling fees is supported by generous friends of Redeemer Counseling through donations.

If you do not apply for the sliding scale, we have a set fee of $225 for each 50-minute session of individual, couples or family counseling.

For couples and family therapy, the session is charged, not the individual members of the family or the couple.

To see if you qualify for a reduced fee, please fill out the Application for Sliding Scale Fee, which is included in the Intake Form. For us to verify your income, you must submit a recent pay stub or the top page of your tax return with your Intake Form.

  • You pay your counselor directly at each session. Billing is tracked through our Client Portal, TheraNest.

+ Credit Card: major credit cards accepted
+ HSA / FSA Credit Cards
    + Cash: exact change only
+ Check: payable to “Redeemer Counseling Services.” Please also list the name of your counselor on the memo line of the check.

To mail in checks, send to: Redeemer Counseling Services 29 W. 38th St., FL10 New York, NY 10018

Accounts must be kept current in order to continue counseling at Redeemer Counseling Services.

  • We are not able to accept any type of health insurance. However, we can provide a letter of receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Because insurance plans vary, please first check with your insurance provider to see if you have out-of-network benefits and whether you will qualify for reimbursement.

Insurance letters can only be given if your account is current and paid in full. Please talk to your counselor about receiving a letter.

  • Yes, as long as it functions as a typical credit card. Clients can also pay for the session another way and file claims using receipts with their HSA and FSA administrators to be reimbursed for the cost.

  • No. All sessions including the first session are charged at either the full fee or a sliding scale fee based on the client household income.

  • Redeemer Counseling offers a generous sliding scale based on current income and student status, so most students are eligible for a reduced fee simply based on their lower income and status.

  • The variables that impact a client’s fee include the size of their household, student status of adults, the current income from all working adults and accessible (liquid) savings or assets. Clients can also comment to explain any unique circumstances.

The sliding scale fee structure is based on combined gross (pre-tax) household income. Therefore, the Reduced Fee Application must be completed by all applicable parties. Please be sure to submit a paycheck stub, the top page of your tax return, or any other document that indicates monthly income for each applicable family member.

  • Redeemer Counseling bases the sliding scale off of gross household income. Therefore, each member of the household must submit their income.

RCS Counselors

  • We assign counselors based on a variety of factors including your availability, your specific issues or preferences, and counselor availability. Unless you specifically request a certain counselor, we will assess the needs of the client and assign an appropriate counselor.

  • Yes, some counselors are doing in-person sessions. Both on the intake form and after you are paired with a counselor, let your counselor know you are interested in in-person counseling and they will do their best to accommodate your request.

  • We typically offer clients who are starting with a new counselor weekly slots, as we believe it is best practice for clients to meet as frequently as possible when starting with a therapist. It is important for clients to build a therapeutic relationship with their therapists in order to meet counseling goals. This is a process that takes time and commitment to meeting frequently.

After some sessions have passed, you may speak with your counselor to see if every other week treatment is adequate for your care. We do not offer monthly counseling at RCS. It is up to your counselor to determine frequency as the professional.

  • No, you do not. However, when scheduled, you are offered a regular day and time slot to see your counselor in. While you are not required to see the counselor for ‘X’ amount of sessions, we do ask that you honor the day, time, and frequency of the slot originally offered to you. If you eventually have a scheduling conflict, you may discuss this with your counselor directly.

  • We do our best to service clients well, and with openings changing regularly, we do not give availability for specific counselors or all openings at RCS.

  • Redeemer Counselors see clients back to back. Free consultations with counselors before the first session are not available. If you have concerns about the counselor fit after the first session or later on, we recommend you first bring it up with your counselor. We recommend clients have a few sessions before making a decision because it takes time to build the therapeutic connection. To learn more about your counselor before your first session, you can read their profile here. If you and your counselor mutually agree that a transfer to another counselor would be best, reach out to the scheduling coordinator to initiate a transfer to another counselor.

Cancellation

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you must notify your counselor 48 hours before your scheduled appointment time. You will be charged in full for your scheduled session if you fail to contact your counselor in advance. This charge must be paid before or at the time of your next appointment to continue in the counseling relationship. Exceptions are made in emergency situations only.

  • For scheduling and canceling your appointment, contact your counselor directly with the phone number provided. After your first session, your counselor will let you know the best way to contact them.

Please note that leaving a message on the Redeemer Counseling voicemail after 5 p.m. may result in a missed appointment charge to your account.

Availability

  • Our availability is updated weekly on this page. We encourage you to bookmark it. If we have a counseling category open or with limited openings, you will be directed from the availability page to fill out an intake form through TheraNest, our client portal.

  • We have high demand and a limited number of counseling openings. New clients see their counselor on regular or weekly slots, so that fills up the spot that was available. Slots are not one-off openings. Counseling works best when clients work with their therapist over time. Many of our counselors work part-time so their availability is also limited.

  • No, we do not. Openings change too frequently and our pairing system is based on clients' needs, so check back here regularly for our availability.

Intake Form & Client Portal

  • If you are having trouble with an intake form, double check that you clicked ‘submit’ in TheraNest Intake Form. We use TheraNest as our client portal for intakes, client communication and billing.

Learn more about our intake forms through this TheraNest Article.

  • Log into your Redeemer Counseling client portal through TheraNest and access your link by viewing your ‘Upcoming Appointments.’

  • Completing the intake form via the online client portal allows the Redeemer Counseling to receive the intake sooner. However, you may reach out to rcs@redeemer.com to schedule a time to come into the office to complete it in person.

Faith & RCS

  • Therapists at Redeemer Counseling counsel Christians, non-Christians and people of other faiths. Although our counselors do not proselytize, they do counsel from a Christian worldview and perspective.

  • We believe both theology and psychology share a common aim of understanding who we are, what is wrong with us, and what will fix us. Our approach to gospel-centered counseling is to create a context for healing and growth as people experience the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of the gospel in a personal way. We believe our role as counselors is to direct people to the sure hope in Christ to restore and heal.

Redeemer Counseling strives to apply a biblical perspective to the challenges of life. We believe that Scripture is God’s inspired written revelation to humanity. It is trustworthy in providing solutions to human problems and it is the final authority on all moral issues of life.

Our counselors strive to provide the best care possible, pointing to the power of Christ to restore and heal.

Our philosophy is holistic. We believe that people are made in God’s image, and to restore health to a person, we need to consider the dimensions of both body and soul. Our goal in counseling is to establish a context of growth by guiding individuals and the community towards emotional and spiritual wholeness. In order for counseling to be meaningful and effective, it must not only help alleviate presenting symptoms and suffering, but it must also expose the complex and largely hidden desires and motives of the heart.
