Chronic mental illness: Loving those who
suffer long

Counseling Toolkit for October 2024

Rosalin Brueck, LMHC
Supervisor & Counselor

Mental illnesses are among the most common health conditions in the United States. According to the CDC:

  • More than 1 in 5 US adults live with a mental illness.

  • More than 1 in 5 youth, ages 13-18, either currently or at some point during their life have had a seriously debilitating mental illness.

  • About 1 in 25 U.S. adults live with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression.

Those we know who live with chronic mental illnesses likely suffer quietly or experience stigma and shame. This Toolkit addresses how we can reflect Christ to people living with chronic mental illness in our social circles and congregations.
